Parent Involvement
Families who become members of Lansdowne Preschool can expect the following commitments:
- Monthly Meeting - one general meeting a month (business and parent education components) scheduled for the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm at St. Alban's Church Hall.
- Duty Days
Parents with children in:
- Morning classes for 3 and 3/4 year olds are on duty for 1-2 days per month
- Morning classes for 4 year olds are on duty for 2-3 days per month
- Afternoon classes for 3/4 year olds are on duty for 2-3 duty days per month
-
Orientation - in order to assist the ECE in the classroom, one parent or caregiver from each family is required to complete ten hours of orientation to familiarize themselves with the preschool's educational philosophy and program as well as to outline their special role in a cooperative preschool. Orientation normally
consists of one class observation, two General Meetings, a Philosophy workshop
and an Orientation workshop. -
Jobs - ranging from an executive position to cleaning, laundry, equipment
maintenance, etc. -
Cleanups - in addition to the weekly cleaning of the preschool which is done
by the cleaning committee, there are three "big cleanups" per year. Each class
is responsible for one of them, and a member from each family is expected to assist. -
Fundraising - as a cooperative we work together to raise funds enabling
us to keep our monthly fees at a level that people of varying incomes
can meet. Fundraising usually involves between one and three events per year.
The nature of these is decided upon by vote during the June General Meeting.
As a coop member, you are expected to participate in the fundraising activities,
which can range from attending special events, selling raffle tickets, to
donating raffle items or services.
